Middlesea launches New Pet Insurance

Malta Independent Friday, 14 June 2013, 13:21 Last update: about 11 years ago

Middlesea Insurance has just launched a NEW insurance product for Pets.

Owning a pet is a joy and the pet is often considered to be an essential member of the family. However it is also a sizeable expense, especially due to unforeseen medical expenses. For this reason, Middlesea Insurance has just launched a new and innovative product in the local market: Pet Insurance, which incorporates the necessary coverage needed for dogs and cats, in order to provide protection for pets and their owners. This insurance product provides coverage for veterinary care in case of illness or accident, theft or loss and expenses associated with the death of the animal.

The basic coverage offers compensation for the value of the animal in the event of accidental death or theft, reimbursement of veterinary care costs caused by an accident, the costs of the pet’s stay in a kennel or cattery when the owner is hospitalised, the cost of advertising the pet’s loss in the media and reward in case the pet is recovered, legal expenses and third party liability cover.

The policy also offers some optional coverage. The customer can opt for coverage of veterinary expenses due to illness. With this cover, Middlesea will reimburse the reasonable expenses incurred for veterinary fees such as tests, surgery, anesthesia and hospitalisation in a vet clinic up to a maximum of €1,000 per policy period. Customers can also opt for cover whilst travelling with their pet outside Malta.

Pets that can be insured under this insurance policy include domestic cats and dogs aged between 3 months and 9 years, which are registered and microchipped. For Vet cover due to sickness the pet needs to comply with a timetable of vaccinations.

During the launch, Stephen Gauci Chief Officer at Middlesea Insurance in charge of Product Development said “Your pets are a precious part of your life and so they deserve to get the best possible veterinary care when necessary. We are pleased to offer you a product that enables you to insure the health of your dog or cat just as you would any other family member. Vet costs can be significant and we are happy to partner with you to help you keep your pets happy and healthy.”
