Stefano Borgonovo dies

Malta Independent Thursday, 27 June 2013, 20:53 Last update: about 11 years ago

Stefano Borgonovo has left us. After years of suffering because of an incurable disease, the former player of Milan, Fiorentina and Como has died. Born in Giussano March 17, 1964, he had just turned 49 years old.

An excellent player, Borgonovo was paradoxically larger in his life post-football than it had been as a player, despite the many great achievements in his career as a footballer.

Borgonovo could perhaps be described as one of many, one of the good ones but without the touch of star players. In life, however, and especially in his fight against the disease, Stefano was more than a champion.

Borgonovo's greatest achievements were two Champions Cup victories with Milan in 1989 and 1990.
