Housing Authority statement

Malta Independent Thursday, 4 July 2013, 08:10 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Housing Authority yesterday denied it had issued an eviction order against the Association of Local Councils, as claimed by the association in a leaflet and then reported in the media.

The facts of the case were that the owners of the premises housing the local council of Balzan, and the association, had filed a case, time before the last election, because of a requistion order on their property.

The authority said it had for years been reducing the number of premises held on the authority of a requistion order. Last December, it said, it wrote to those occupying the premises in questions, giving them six months to find alternative premises.

This was not an eviction order, the authority said. And, it pointed out, the new board and Minister Marie Louise Coleiro Preca personally had without delay taken an initiative to solve the issue and talks are in hand so that while the existing premises are vacated, another would be found for those affected.
