This morning Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia visited the Hyperbaric Unit in Gozo that is once again fully operational as of the 1st of May and which had been closed for the previous six months.
This service is vital to sustain the diving industry in Gozo and also serves to provide hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the Gozo General Hospital patients. Since re-opening, 40 HBOT sessions and 4 emergency treatments for divers have been carried out.
The Ministry for Health is also planning to train two further doctors in hyperbaric medicine at the GGH.
Tissue viability: this service is an important step in the implementation of Government’s electoral manifesto measures for this legislature particularly the upgrading of the Gozo General Hospital.
Minister for Health, Dr. Godfrey Farrugia took the opportunity to give heart-felt thanks to all Gozo General Hospital staff involved in this project and the Ministry for Gozo for its support.
