Malta Independent Monday, 12 August 2013, 19:30 Last update: about 11 years ago

Beatrice Farrugia was recently awarded with the BOV Prize in Medicine after successfully placing first in the final examination at the Department of Medicine within the University of Malta.  Beatrice obtained the highest mark in this examination and was awarded a grade A with distinction.  The holistic performance shown by a good number of the final year medical students as a whole makes Dr Farrugia’s achievement more significant.

The BOV Prize in Medicine was established in 2006 to award the student with the best performance in the final qualifying examinations in Medicine at the Department of Medicine. The top student is selected following a written assessment and a practical clinical examination lasting over an hour and involving twenty examiners including external examiners from the Universities of Michigan and London.

Joyce Tabone, Manager Media and Community Relations presented the BOV Prize in Medicine 2013 to Dr Farrugia who was accompanied by Prof Stefan Montefort, Head of the Department of Medicine and Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Medicine & Surgery at the University of Malta.

“Dr Farrugia has always been an excellent student and has reaped the results of her efforts by being awarded the prestigious prize so generously and constantly donated by BOV.  Such prizes continue to stimulate great efforts by students as they mean a big boost to their CV.  Dr Farrugia should go far if she maintains her current diligence and interest in Medicine,” said Prof. Stephen Montfort.
