News of Malta’s bendy bus woes spreads like wildfire

The news of Malta’s bendy bus woes has spread like wildfire, with reports popping up in both the British and Australian media.

The London Evening Standard yesterday weighed in on the bendy bus breakdowns in an article titled ‘How do you make a Maltese cross? Sell him our bendy buses.’

The Evening Standard reported how “the fleet of 68 of the so-called “chariots of fire” have been temporarily suspended while an investigation into the causes of the blazes is carried out.”

The bendy buses were hugely unpopular in London, and last year London Mayor Boris Johnson quipped that the” jack-knifed diplodocus” buses were now “clogging up the streets of Malta.”

ITV, a British television channel and news portal, reported the transport ministry’s and transport Malta’s demands to have the bendy buses removed from Maltese roads.

Sky News Australia reported how “the inexplicable incidents prompted a barrage of complaints from the public.”

“The Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses serve a third of all routes, potentially creating a logistical headache for the authorities in the midst of the tourist season,” Sky News said.
