Designer Jil Sander's creative imagination might take her through a looking glass, but unlike dreamy Alice in the 19th-century children's novel, she finds real clothes for the real women on the other side.

During her Saturday afternoon show for the summer 2014, models walked through plexiglass panels set up on the runway allowing the outfits to be viewed from different angles. But whatever the perspective, the message was clearly of wearability and femininity.

Moving forward, but not too far, from her renown minimalist style, the German designer offers jackets and coats with soft lines, youthful dresses and boyish pants, and a palette that when not staple neutral and black, bursts out into tiny multicolored patterns.

The silhouette stands away from the body but is less rigid than in past seasons, with unlikely — if not daring — slits down the back and up the sides of a leather top, or a printed dress.

The summer trouser is cut wide like a sailor pant, but cuffed and cropped mid-calf. Comfortable sandals with thick rubber and wooden soles complete every outfit.

Fear not. There is plenty for those looking for traditional Jil Sander, from the duster coat in urban gray to the androgynous black pant suit, to the unfussy floor-length gowns.

The common denominator for both the new and old looks is the refined tailoring, which make every Jil Sander collection look extremely well put together.
