PN calls on government to help reunite migrant families

Malta Independent Monday, 21 October 2013, 17:48 Last update: about 11 years ago

The PN is appealing to the government to reunite migrant families that were separated during last week’s rescue operation.

In a statement PN PM Claudette Buttigieg said that a number of migrants, including children, had been separated from their families during the rescue. Some had been taken to Lampedusa while others were brought to Malta. A number of families are suffering because of this situation, and some migrant families are refusing to apply for asylum before they are reunited with their loved ones.

The PN called on the government to give priority to these families. The government should call on the Italian authorities to help in reuniting these people.
