Watch: Busuttil ‘confused and out of depth’ – PM

Malta Independent Monday, 11 November 2013, 21:15 Last update: about 11 years ago

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil’s reaction to the 2014 Budget was confused and riddled with factual errors and personal insults, according to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

In brief comments made immediately after Dr Busuttil’s two hour speech in parliament this evening, Dr Muscat questioned the opposition leader’s “confused” reaction to the budget, noting how he had first described the budget as a positive one before going on to criticise it heavily.

Dr Muscat insisted that Dr Busuttil proved to be out of his depth as far as economic and financial matters were concerned. He said that the public was expecting Dr Busuttil to show them what a Nationalist government would have done differently, but were instead treated to poor economic analysis and scores of factual errors, which he pledged to address in his own address to parliament tomorrow.

The Prime Minister argued that in a bid to save face in light of his poor analysis, Dr Busuttil resorted to an “unprecedented” amount of personal insults in a bid to save face. But he insisted that the public could easily see through what he had done.
