The Westfield Christmas Launch takes place at Shepherd’s Bush in London today, Wednesday 20 November. This highly prestigious affair is one of the biggest events to kick start the British Christmas season and over the last two years has had some of the world’s biggest superstars performing. Justin Bieber starred in 2011 while Taylor Swift did the honours in 2012. This year some of the best talents in London have been invited to perform, including top Brit School acts Tia Wright and Joy Jeffreys, the production Burlesque On Ice, and Malta’s own Sophie DeBattista has also been invited, amongst others.

The emerging singer/songwriter, who is originally from Malta and now based in London is enjoying a busy life and moving forward steadily in reaching out for her dream. Hard work is the order of the day and this is paying off.

After releasing her new song “Lil’ Game” back in September, the 19-year-old talent had the privilege to perform at ‘The Open Mic UK’ competition and is just one step away from the UK Grand Final at the ‘O2 Arena’. Her last ‘Open Mic UK’ performance at ‘Dingwalls Camden’ was one of her best ever and after this Sophie was awarded a songwriting scholarship at The ‘Institute of Contemporary Music and Performance (ICMP)’, following a recommendation by ‘The Mayor of London Culture Team’.

Her new song was picked up by a number of Radio stations and this brought along live interviews with several broadcasters enjoying Sophie’s new sound, the result of her work with experienced Finnish producers ‘Matt’ and ‘Ville Leppanen’ from ‘The Animal Farm’ studios in Bermondsey.

Sophie says: “I came to live in London as I felt it would give me a better chance of reaching out for my dream, that is doing music as a vocation. InJanuary 2013, I changed my style and sound, also introducing acoustic guitar to my live gigs.11 months on and so many exciting things are happening!! This is mainly thanks to so many lovely people who believe in me and are showing their very kind support, I owe them so much!! My dream gets closer every day and I will work even harder than ever to achieve this!!”
