President George Abela, who is also the chairman of the Commission for the Administration of Justice, said that the case involving Magistrate Carol Peralta will be discussed by the commission next week.
President Abela said on Xarabank that he had received a letter from the parliamentary secretary for justice Owen Bonnici to request the commission to investigate the case.
On Thursday, Magistrate Peralta ordered the arrest of a journalist who was attempting to take a photo of a party that was being held in a courtroom. The journalist was later released, but the incident sparked a series of statements that condemned the magistrate’s behaviour, with parliamentary secretary Owen Bonnici requesting the Commission for the Administration of Justice to investigate the incident.
