The Malta Resources Authority has announced that four grant schemes which aim to reduce household energy and water use are being extended.

The four schemes were set to end this month.

The scheme subsidising the acquisition of photovoltaic panels in the domestic sector is being extended until the end of March. A total of €21 million had been made available at the scheme’s inception, of which 85% were provided through the European Regional Development Fund.

Successful applicants receive a grant covering 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of €2,500.

The three other schemes are being extended until the end of 2014. These schemes include the solar water heater scheme, which was launched in 2011 and which provides a grant of 40% up to a maximum of €400.

Another scheme being extended is the scheme subsidising the installation of roof insulation and double glazing, which was launched in 2012 and which covers 15.25% of eligible costs up to a maximum of €1,000. The fourth scheme subsidises the restoration of domestic cisterns and the installation of second class water systems, through which grants up to €1,000 can be provided.
