Anita Mifsud has recently been appointed CEO of the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre, better known as MFCC. Ms Mifsud, who is an engineer by profession, is actually returning to MFCC as she held the CEO position between 2007 and 2008. She comes back with great enthusiasm and the determination to take the company on its next important milestone that of making MFCC a permanent convention centre. Anita Mifsud said, “It’s exciting to lead MFCC into a new phase of growth and development; we want to grow the MFCC brand in the local and international market. We are taking a fresh, innovative approach and looking at ways we can strategically grow our exhibitions, events and MICE portfolio. Another objective is to extend the quality of the services we deliver to clients, audience, exhibitors, visitors and professional entities. We want to leverage the expertise we have across with our individual shows with our entire portfolio so that we are continuously innovating and delivering value to our clients”. During the time that she spent at MFCC, Ms Mifsud developed a passion for the events industry. When she left, she decided to further her knowledge in the field and enrolled in UFI’s Exhibitions and Events Management Degree (EMB) in Dubai. Upon graduating she worked with various promoters and event organisers within the Dubai Trade Centre and eventually returned to Malta.

This appointment follows the recent acquisition of the complete 100% shareholding of MFCC Ltd. by the company Catermax Ltd. Catermax is jointly owned by Corinthia Group and the Vassallo Group. Last June Catermax bought out Sign It Ltd the secondary shareholder. In December 2011 Catermax had commenced its investment in MFCC when it had bought the shareholding held by, the then, majority shareholder Nexos Ltd. Ing. Gerald Borg, MFCC’s Managing Director said, “now that Catermax is the 100% shareholder of MFCC, the company can look ahead with the confidence of achieving the principle objective

that of giving the Maltese Islands a state-of-the-art convention centre which will place Malta on the forefront within the MICE business tourism segment. Our plans are ambitious and our team is very competent,” he continued. ‘’With the cooperation of all stakeholders we will successfully deliver our plan from which all Malta will benefit.’’ He is fully confident in Ms Anita Mifsud’s ability to deliver and he augured her every success in her new appointment.
