A Grand Welcome to the Year of the Horse at the Grand Hotel Excelsior

Malta Independent Friday, 24 January 2014, 08:37 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Year of the Horse is fast approaching, and all is set at the Grand Hotel Excelsior to celebrate in a Grand style the most important festivity in the Chinese calendar. The Hotel Lobby has been decorated with authentic Chinese decorations which are a symbol of growth and prosperity, whilst looking forward for a new beginning as we welcome the Year of the Horse.

Chinese New Year, better known in China as the Spring Festival, is a time to welcome longevity, wealth and prosperity and to eliminate any negative events from the past. In Chinese tradition, each year is dedicated to a specific animal. The Dragon, Horse, Monkey, Rat, Boar, Rabbit, Dog, Rooster, Ox, Tiger, Snake, and Ram are the twelve animals that are part of this tradition.  Each of these animals are thought to bestow their characteristics to the people born in their year. In 2014, the Horse is welcomed back after the 2013 year of the Snake.

People born in the Year of the Horse are vigorous and energetic. Their most striking point lies in their strong self-confidence and gentleness. Some famous personalities who were born in the Year of the Horse are Harrison Ford, John Travolta, Cindy Crawford, Oprah Winfrey, Denzel Washington and Beetle’s legend Paul McCartney.

Chinese people may celebrate this feast in slightly different ways but their wishes are almost the same; they want their family members and friends to be healthy and lucky during the New Year.

Dine in Spice Island on Thursday 30th January 2014 and experience a traditional Chinese feast as Excelsior’s Asian chefs prepare a special Chinese New Year themed menu. The sumptuous dinner includes live cooking stations, authentic sushi corner, and signature dishes such as the Thai Red Curry Chicken, deep-fried ribs with Ginger, duck leg with Coconut, coriander and sweet peppers and Punjabi Lamb Rogan. Members of the public are welcome to join in the celebratory dinner priced at 35 Euro for adults and half price for children between the ages of 6 and 11.
