Green Flag ceremony at St Clare College, Gzira Boys’ Secondary School

Wednesday 29 January was a memorable day for St Clare College, Boys’ Secondary School. Education and Employment Minister Evarist Bartolo, the Director for Research and Development, Dr Frank Fabri, the School Principal, Ms Maria Ciappara, the Gzira Local Council, the National Coordinators of Eko-Skola Programme and Nature Trust, were all present to celebrate the Green Flag Ceremony.

The School, which forms part of this International programme, celebrated the continuous hard work done by the students and teachers, with the support and help of the administration throughout the scholastic year. Gzira Boys’ Secondary School was awarded the prestigious Green Flag in improving the school environment, mostly focusing on the school garden.

Various activities were organised related to this theme. For this special occasion, there was a power point presentation which focused particularly on the creation of the world, the beauty around us, how this beauty is being threatened and what we as a school have done to improve the environment. Moreover, both students and members of staff, participated in a short sketch, singing, dancing and a display of the Human Alphabet.

After the Green Flag was presented to the three students, who are members both of EkoSkola and Students’ Council, the Minister was invited to plant a tree to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of trees in our environment.
