Former Nationalist MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orland has hit out at outgoing President George Abela over his refusal to sign the gay marriage bill.

Writing on Facebook today, the former MP, who was behind the process leading to a divorce referendum and the subsequent introduction of the divorce law, said that the “President should appreciate the fact that he should NEVER have allowed his religious beliefs to influence him. He has NO RIGHT to impose his beliefs on others. NO ONE does.”

He said that the rights of minorities should never be dictated by the majority.
