John Dalli imposed on Health Minister - Marlene Farrugia

Malta Independent Monday, 31 March 2014, 09:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Labour MP Marlene Farrugia has hit out at the government she forms part of, saying that the Prime Minister humiliated Godfrey Farrugia “from the beginning” and the appointment of John Dalli as a consultant on the health sector was an imposition that undermined the minister’s authority.

Writing in The Malta Independent (newspaper) today, Dr Farrugia, who is also the partner of the former Health Minister who resigned last Saturday, said that she had persuaded Godfrey Farrugia to contest the election on Labour’s ticket.

After Labour won the election and Godfrey Farrugia was appointed minister, he “embarked on a mammoth task” of addressing the issues in the health sector, solely motivated by the resolve the make life easier for present and future patients.

While not contesting the PM’s prerogative to choose his ministers, Marlene Farrugia said she however did have an issue with the way Godfrey Farrugia was “repeatedly humiliated” by the PM.

She describes the last few weeks as a “nightmare in public relations for the Labour movement”, largely because speculation on a Cabinet reshuffle led to psychological abuse of the ministers and parliamentary secretaries as they awaited for the PM to make up his mind.
