Ta’ Hagrat temples saga: Cassola says PN being hypocritical

Malta Independent Thursday, 24 April 2014, 14:41 Last update: about 11 years ago

Alternattiva Demokratika chairman and MEP candidate Arnold Cassola has accused the PN of being hypocritical in the Ta’ Hagrat temples saga.

The PN yesterday filed a Parliamentary motion calling on the government to expropriate the land to prevent development inside a buffer zone just outside the temples.

Writing on Facebook today, Mr Cassola said that the development permit was issued under a PN administration. “The PN has filed a motion urging the government to expropriate a plot of land metres away from Mgarr's Ta' Hagrat temples, which are a Unesco heritage site. This would be fine were it not that it is the PN that is responsible for this mess. The permit for this development was approved on 4th August 2006, under Minister George Pullicino, when the said land was included in the Local Plan for Mgarr and changed into a "buildable" area. Hypocrites!”

The PN yesterday said that a development application was refused in 2009 but MEPA issued the necessary permits in 2013, after the change in administration.
