Addressing a political event at Naxxar this evening, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that on Wednesday, the government will be introducing a new an investment that will prove beneficial for many families. He did not give any hints as to what this might be.
Earlier during the event, Dr Muscat said that Air Malta will benefit from new markets, which help the company get back on its feet and it will, eventually, be able to employ new people. However the Prime Minister did not go into any details, except for saying that the govermment intends to re-invigorate the national carrier as it did with Enemalta Corporation.
Replying to a press conference by the Nationalist party earlier today, in which PN deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami criticized the government for giving jobs positions to 12 individuals who worked for the Labour party, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said the government has not ignored its meritocracy pledge and several job positions have been retained, even after a change in government."There is nothing wrong with labourites getting new job positions."
Dr Muscat said that resulting from measures implemented in the last year, the public will benefit from €30 million more in their pockets, and this amount will continue to increase over the next few years. He said that the government has laid down a strategic plan ensuring that businesses within tourism sector will also benefit from a reduction in their utility bills.
"The public is already noticing the difference after a change in government - we have already done so much; and we want to accomplish so much more. We have reduced electricity tariffs, created new jobs and made a huge forward regarding equality."
Dr Muscat said that are still individuals who are struggling to make ends meet and there is still more to be done regarding precarious job conditions, and the government are working to end such practices, saying that two companies have already been blacklisted and will not be eligible for government companies over the next two years. He made reference to the 40 ARMS employees who have had their wage increased by €2 an hour.
Admitting that more women are registering for work, Dr Muscat said that governmental measures such as free child care will ensure more flexibility for women wishing to pursue their career.
