PM ‘shot himself in the foot’ – PN on Engerer judgement; No reference from PM

Malta Independent Thursday, 8 May 2014, 18:23 Last update: about 13 years ago

The news that PL MEP candidate Cyrus Engerer has been handed a suspended jail sentence for circulating pornography proves the Prime Minister’s immaturity, the PN said in a statement this evening.

“In order to score some political points against the PN, Joseph Muscat welcomed into his party a person who was accused of a serious crime, that has now been confirmed by the Appeals Court. Joseph Muscat cannot remain silent or avoid shouldering political responsibility.”

The PN said that it is the PM’s duty to say what steps he is going to take against Mr Engerer and apologise to the public for allowing a candidate to contest the EP election when he was being accused of a serious crime.

The more time passes, the more the PM’s immaturity is becoming apparent, said the PN, which also accused Dr Muscat of lowering standards instead of raising them.

The PN press release was accompanied by a photo of Dr Muscat and Cyrus Engerer. It shows the launch of the PM's biography, which was written by Mr Engerer.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat made no reference to the incident when he addressed a Labour Party political activity in Gozo this evening.
