The Nationalist Party today launched a mock sticker album in which 200 “golden soldiers” who it said are feeding off people’s taxes are featured.

Addressing journalists outside Parliament, PN Deputy Leader Beppe Fenech Adami said the government had thrown the electoral promise of meritocracy out the widow.

Sticker albums are normally associated with football, especially when World Cups are about to take place.

In the first year of the legislature, the government had worked for the few, rather than for the many, and Prime Minister Joseph Muscat was “filling the pockets of close friends and relatives”, Dr Fenech Adami said.

“The Prime Minister has introduced the culture that if you work with the Labour media, or you are close friends and relatives of a minister, then you get more than one job.”

Dr Muscat would be earning €70,000 by the end of the legislature off his personal car that was worth €5,000 which he was renting out to himself, the PN MP said.

The album - which can be downloaded from the internet – includes MP Silvio Schembri, Michelle Buttigieg - the business partner of the Prime Minister’s wife and 12 people, who used to work with the Labour media and who now had “phenomenal salaries within the public service and would be earning €3 million between them, Dr Fenech Adami said.

In reply, the Labour Party said that while the PN gave people albums, the Labour government was giving them a better quality of life through a reduction in energy bills and other initiatives taken by the government. The PN continued with its politics of negativity on the same day that the government an nounced measures to reduce waiting time at Mater Dei Hospital.
