Owner of house in UK wants social housing in Malta – Minister

Malta Independent Thursday, 12 June 2014, 15:40 Last update: about 12 years ago

A person who owns a house in the UK has applied for social housing in Malta, Social Policy Minister Michael Farrugia revealed in a tweet today.

Speaking in parliament earlier this week, Dr Farrugia described how a man calling himself “homeless” admitted that he was living with his girlfriend who was on welfare but he was applying for housing to get more benefits.

The minister also recounted that shortly after he became the minister responsible for social housing, he was approached by a man who, in all seriousness, asked to be given a seaside apartment, preferably either in St Julian’s or in St Paul’s Bay.
