Maltese students prove their worth in Dansworks Academy show in England

A group of 13 dancers from Dance College Studios were the main guest performers at the annual show organised recently by Dansworks Dance Academy of Bacup, Rossendale in England.

The Maltese dancers were “warmly applauded for their superb performance in street dance and hip hop,” according to Kim Schembri, principal of Dance College Studios.

“This was yet another opportunity for dancers from our college to prove their worth in front of a foreign audience. Dance not only instils confidence in people but promotes a sense of worth and achievement,” Ms Schembri added.

The show was held at the Burnley Mechanics Theatre. Built in 1854-55 as a Mechanics’Institute and converted to a theatre in 1979, it has been designated a Grade II listed building by English Heritage.  Dinner after the show was attended by the Mayor of Rossendale, Councillor Amanda Robertson.

“Such visits tend to instil a greater sense of discipline and maturity in our students. This is the third such trip abroad. In 2012, we performed at Areadanza in Livorno, Italy and last year we were invited to take part in the annual show organised by the Nene Valley Dance Academy, in Corby, England.

“Our visits are reciprocated by the respective academies and, in fact, a group of dancers from Dansworks will be the main guests at our annual show entitled Xpressions which will be held next 11 and 12 July.

Another good thing that comes out of such visits is that both schools will be arranging student and teacher exchanges in the coming months, Ms Schembri said
