Police forced to withdraw video aimed at tourists

Malta Independent Saturday, 21 June 2014, 08:33 Last update: about 11 years ago

The police have been forced to withdraw a video it uploaded online giving advice to tourists who visit Malta.

The video had been hugely popular and had more than 60,000 in the two days it was online, but the police communications office said that the footage was no longer available. No explanation was given.

The video featured Superintendent Sharon Tanti giving advice to tourists on the law in Malta, and spoke about the illegalities of smoking in closed public spaces, of topless sunbathing and skinny dipping, and also warned tourists not to jump into the seas from heights.
The video has been removed on instructions from the Home Affairs Ministry which deemed it amateurish, non-factual and bad to the country's image. There were worries that the video could actually push people away from coming over to Malta.

The Malta Independent had been asked by the police to publish the video on our website, which we did. But the video has since been removed.

It is now however available on John Bundy's youtube page.
