Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said this morning he is awaiting clarifications by OLAF – the EU’s anti-fraud office – over claims it made yesterday.

In a letter to the Speaker, OLAF chief Giovanni Kessler said Mr Dalli had warned him, through a source, that he risked being arrested if he set foot in Malta.

But in a statement, the former EU Commissioner said he wanted to confront Mr Kessler in Malta, at a hearing of the Parliamentary Privileges Committee, and would have never warned him off.

Mr Kessler also claimed that Police Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit failed to answer to a number of requests for collaboration by OLAF in connection with a “new” investigation concerning John Dalli.

Mr Zammit yesterday insisted that OLAF had only made one request and the replies had been sent.

Speaking to the press at a business breakfast organised by The Malta Business Weekly, Dr Muscat said the government had requested more details from OLAF.

“The Commissioner,” Dr Muscat said, in reference to John Dalli, “has given an altogether different version. I await more details from OLAF.”
