Opposition says it believes all children should be given equal access to summer schools

Opposition spokesperson for education Joe Cassar said in a statement issued today that children with special needs should be given the necessary support so that they can attend summer school.

Dr Cassar said this in the light of reports received by the Nationalist Party that parents of children with special needs were facing difficulties when it came to choosing a summer school of their choice for their child to attend.

The PN, he said, believes that all children should be given equal access and giving the option to children with special needs to attend a school of their parents’ choice during summer would help better social inclusion as from a young age.

This can only happen if the government provides adequate resources, he added.

“It was a PN government which extended the service of Learning Support Assistants in all schools and now it was time for a Labour government to continue on what the PN built when in government and to extend the service of summer schools in both church and independent schools,” Dr Cassar said.
