Investigations involving police officers should remain within the corps - Manuel Mallia

Malta Independent Thursday, 17 July 2014, 09:13 Last update: about 13 years ago

Minister Manuel Mallia said today that investigations into police officers should remain within the police corps and not done externally.

“These investigations are handled by their peers and in addition there is a police board,” he said.

Parliament was discussing cases in Gozo through several Parliamentary questions fired at the Minister by PN Whipp David Agius on behalf of Jason Azzopardi. The questions surround an alleged hit and run involving members of the police corps.

Minister Mallia denied that any hit and run took place but rather that a crash was involved. He said that an internal investigation took place, an officer was transferred to Valletta and later suspended and is currently in court. Another officer involved in an incident was transferred to Valletta then back to Gozo after the case against him was dropped as he was found innocent.
