The chairman of the consultative council for the south of Malta Labour MP Silvio Parnis has announced that an inter ministerial committee has been set up with the aim of conducting a massive cleanup in the south.

Speaking on One radio along with the executive secretary of Labour think tank Fondazzjoni Ideat Desmond Zammit Marmara, Mr Parnis also suggested that contractors who owe money to the government should be requested to restore facades of old buildings and help restore bastions in the south of Malta in exchange for the money they owe.
Mr Parnis had been appointed as the chairman of the consultative council for the south of Malta in November last year. The council falls under the Ministry for the Environment.
Mr Parnis, who garnered 978 first-count votes from the fourth district, was nominated by the government. On its part, the Opposition nominated Charlot Cassar while the Maltese Archdiocese nominated Nora Macelli.
Other members include UoM senior lecturer Angela Abela, Kenneth Abela, Jason Bonnici, Ramblers Association honorary president Lino Bugeja, Graziella Cavlan, MDA deputy president Sandro Chetcuti, PL MEP candidate and former CPD director Peter Cordina and private hospital owner, Josie Muscat.
