Experienced lawyer calls for boycott of Wenzu Mintoff's first sitting as judge

Malta Independent Wednesday, 23 July 2014, 10:30 Last update: about 11 years ago

An experienced lawyer and columnist of The Malta Independent, Austin Sammut, is urging “serious” colleagues to boycott the first sitting of newly-appointed judge Wenzu Mintoff, describing the appointment as “an affront to the other many honourable and respectable judges as well as to the Maltese people as a whole”.

Writing in The Malta Independent today, Dr Sammut says the appointment was “a bolt out of the blue, sprung... by a government which does not even know where transparency and decency begin”.

“How can you have a judge who for years has vilified a good half of the Maltese population with the hdura (bile) in his writings and broadcasts,” Dr Sammut writes.

Dr Sammut said he will be boycotting the first sitting and “should (he summon me) to a hearing in his hall I will not be there. And please note that I refuse to refer to him as Judge Mintoff and less so Mr Justice”.

“Mintoff... has far too much baggage, and my God it’s heavy”.
