Substantial drop in number of unemployed people

In June the number of persons registering for work with the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC) stood at 6,751 compared to 7,279 in the corresponding month last year.

Data provided by the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC) for June show a decrease of 489 persons registering under Part I and a decline of 39 among those registering under Part II of the unemployment register, when compared to the corresponding month last year.

Decreases were recorded among all age-groups with the most signi?cant being recorded among registrants aged 45 and over.

When compared to June 2013, an increase of 261 persons was recorded among those who had been registering for more than one year. On the other hand, the number of persons who had been registering for less than 21 weeks declined by 528. The number of disabled persons registering for work decreased by 37 to 493 persons. Males accounted for 82.4 per cent of the total number of registrants with disability.

The largest share of men on the register sought occupations as crafts and related trade workers, whereas women mostly sought occupations classi?ed as technicians and associate professionals.

The registered unemployed rate in February stood at 4.6 per cent of the labour supply (excluding part-time employment - refer to methodological note 6) and varied from 5.4 per cent among men to 3.2 per cent among women.
