Duncan Scerri, 39 was jailed for 9 years and fined €25,000 while Walid Laoudini, 35 was jailed 8 years and fined €20,000 after being found guilty of trafficking drugs.
On 26th April 2007, the two tried to escape the police, when these approached the car driven by the accused. 96 white capsules were found in the vehicle - tests later revealed it amounted to 914g of cocaine, valued at €69,964. Judge Michael Mallia ruled out possession of drugs for personal use.
On the same day, the accused had arranged to meet with a third person to sell the drug.
When interrogated by the police, the accused admitted to also trafficking heroine.
Both were also charged for being in possession of cannabis.
The Attorney General appealed for life imprisonment.
