Firefighters from the Civil Protection Department are tackling a blaze in an underground garage complex in Sacred Heart Street, St Julians. 

A number of cars are parked within the complex but it is not yet known if any were damaged in the fire, which is understood to have started from a rubbish pile.

No one was hurt but thick plumes of smoke were pouring out of the entrance. 

CPD units from the Floriana and Kordin Stations were called to the scene. Station Officer David Piscopo is leading the operation.
