Kelma Kelma u Nota Nota, a concert which celebrates Maltese language and music, will be held once more due to popular demand.

The concert, which is the brainchild of Kelma Kelma and the Big Band Brothers, will be held on Wednesday, 27 August at the Pjazza Teatru Rjal. It will also feature actor and TV presenter Ray Calleja as well as the Bezzina siblings, and will involve music, poetry and wordplays.

The first edition of the concert was held on 15 July, as part of the Malta Arts Festival. Once again, the event will be organised with the assistance of the Malta Arts Council, in collaboration with the Justice Ministry.

It will be held under the patronage of President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, and all proceeds will be in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Kelma Kelma is a Facebook page which was established by University of Malta lecturer Michael Spagnol and which focuses on the Maltese language as a living language that is still evolving, through regular updates featuring, among other things, word definitions, trivia and literature excerpts. The Facebook page has proven to be a runaway success, gathering over 30,000 fans in just a year and a half.

Big Band Brothers, meanwhile, is an 18-member band founded by singer/percussionist Daniel Cauchi in 2006. It has participated in various local events, and has also performed in Italy, Portugal, Tunisia, Turkey and the UK.

The Bezzina siblings, who include 2013 Maltasong Festival winner Gianluca, will be performing songs penned by their grandfather Gaetano Buttigieg, popularly known as “Gejtu Kanta,” who was a pioneer in the field of Maltese-language music.

Tickets for the concert can be bought through ticketline.com.mt or through the ticket offices of the Embassy and of Pjazza Teatru Rjal itself. Tickets are priced at €15; a discounted price of €10 applies for students and the elderly, while tickets for children aged 12 and under can be booked free of charge. All children must be accompanied by adults.
