British man guilty of using missing ATM card

Malta Independent Tuesday, 26 August 2014, 17:13 Last update: about 11 years ago

A British man living in Fgura pleaded guilty to using another person’s credit card to take €100 from an ATM.

On 9 May, John Alan Card Farrugia, 46, was in Sliema, and used a credit card belonging to Carl Peter Doftvik. He withdrew the aforementioned sum and was caught on CCTV.

Mr Farrugia had earlier found the card but failed to report the missing property to the police. He said that he was willing to pay back the €100 and argued that the crime committed was clearly a mistake on his part.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja discharged Mr Farrugia for three years and decreed that he must pay a fine of €50 for failing to report the missing card to the police.
