Daughter in perjury case wanted to move in with her father on prison release

Malta Independent Wednesday, 27 August 2014, 14:30 Last update: about 11 years ago

A probation officer today said that the woman accused of perjuring her father wanted to go live with him on his release from prison.

The woman stands accused of inventing claims that her father sexually abused her. The girl’s perjury led to her father’s imprisonment.

Probation officer Antonia Spagnol told the court that Leanne Camilleri had a difficult upbringing. Her father was never present in her life after her parents split up when she was seven.

Ms Spagnol said Camilleri is harbouring a lot of resentment towards her mother, and the two were constantly at loggerheads.

She is currently working two part-time jobs as a carer and is in a stable relationship.

Her father has since forgiven her for the lies she told, but feels she should shoulder responsibilities for her actions.

Presenting a pre-sentencing report, the probation officer recommended that she be given three years probation and perform 100 hours of community service. The probation officer also recommended that she receive psychiatric support.

Sentencing will be handed down on 15 September.
