Malta Independent Monday, 1 September 2014, 19:07 Last update: about 11 years ago

The free Breakfast Club service will once again be offered during this scholastic year as from the the very first day of school, that is 22 September, the government has announced.

The Breakfast Club initiative was first introduced in all State Primary Schools on 1 April this year, leading to schools opening at 7am to enable parents to bring their children in early before going going to work, giving them greater flexibility.

In turn children are not only supervised but are also provided with a healthy and nutritious breakfast before the school time starts so as to promote a healthy lifestyle among students. This service is being offered free of charge to all those children whose parents work.

During the previous scholastic year, 700 students attended Breakfast Club on a daily basis. In total around 38,500 breakfasts were offered in the schools of Malta and Gozo between April and June 2014.

Parents and guardians are invited to register their children via the online registration form which may be accessed at www.education.gov.mt/en/Pages/Breakfast-Club.aspx
