Passenger mocked: Driver suspended after Malta Independent story

Malta Independent Tuesday, 2 September 2014, 15:45 Last update: about 11 years ago

Following the story published yesterday on The Malta Independent under the heading “Elderly woman says that bus driver mocked her with goat calls”, Malta Public Transport has immediately initiated an internal investigation which has led to a driver employed by one of its sub-contractors being suspended, Transport Malta said in a statement.

The bus operator categorically admonishes any such behaviour which it said is “unacceptable under any circumstance”, more so towards its customers and is examining the incident thoroughly. A representative of Malta Public Transport has since contacted and spoken to the customer involved and apologised for such regrettable behaviour and for the delay in with which this complaint was addressed.

Malta Public Transport is currently in discussions with the sub-contractor representatives to implement stronger and more effective controls with sub-contracted services to mitigate the risk of such instances reoccurring.

Malta Public Transport reiterates that customer service remains a priority of the highest order on its agenda and indeed urges customers not to hesitate in getting in touch with their feedback on the customer care number 2122-2000 or alternatively via email to: [email protected].

Earlier in the day, Transport Malta said it had also suspended a driver after footage of him driving with a broken steering wheel surfaced on the internet.
