Malta Independent Friday, 19 September 2014, 13:07 Last update: about 11 years ago

A 51-year-old man from Zebbug was today jailed three years and fined €2,500 after he was found guilty of trafficking heroin in a case that goes back a number of years.

Anthony Borg was found to have some 27 heroin capsules in his possession, which were hidden in a Kinder Sorpresa egg. Investigators had solved the case after finding the drugs, as well as buyers at Mr Borg’s residence. The accused was arraigned twice; once in 1999 and then again in 2002.

In the first investigation, police had searched the roof of Mr Borg's residence. Eventually, a plastic Kinder Sorpresa egg containing heroin sachets was found on the adjacent roof. At the same time another man knocked on the door with LM5 he owed to the accused. They were all arrested.

The court also heard how, in 2002, the police had once again arrested another alleged buyer at Mr Borg’s residence.

The court, presided by Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras, ordered the destruction of the drugs.
