The Health Department today denied reports on PN website MaltaRightNow of a suspected Ebola case in Gozo.

In a statement, the Health Department said the patient referred to in the report had not been abroad in the past six months and was not classified as a suspected Ebola case.

The Department appealed against “frivolous and premature alarm” being raised about such serious matter.

The report claimed that a Gozitan man went to the Gozo Hospital suffering from “Ebola like symptoms.”

The man was reportedly sent home as the Gozo Hospital is not equipped to deal with Ebola cases.

In comments to this website, Maltarightnow pointed out that their main point was that in Gozo they are not equipped to fight Ebola in case a real infected patient turns up. They say in the story that doctors have instructions to send any suspected case home until someone from Malta goes to check him/her out.
