Joseph Cuschieri says government is pleasing individuals; genuine Labourites disappointed

In an opinion piece in today’s edition of The Malta Independent on Sunday, former MEP Joseph Cuschieri said that the Labour Party is trying to please individuals or groups of people who are not traditionally associated with the party, and this, to the detriment of die-hard Labourites.

“The true soldiers of steel who have fallen behind in the pecking order because of new blood; the genuine Labourites out there in the streets who continue to complain about the injustices they suffered under the previous administrations and continue to suffer now that their party is in government.”

The former MEP said that after an absence of 25 years, the party needs to convince the floaters that they have made the right choice in choosing the Labour party. He lauded the party for fulfilling its promises to reduce utility bills and offer free child-care services, and for the reforms brought forward, particularly in the area of civil rights. However he said, the problem lies with the core Labour vote.
