66-year-old man dies after car driven by 17-year-old crashes into bus stop at Mtarfa

A 66-year old man lost his life this morning after a car crashed into a bus stop, where the man was sitting, chatting with a relative, of 61 years.

The vehicle, a Toyota Tercel, was being driven by a 17-year-old, who does not hold a driving licence. The man was heading towards Mtafa from Naxxar, when he lost control of the vehicle.

The bus stop collapsed on impact, trapping the 66-year-old under it. He was certified dead at the scene of the accident The accident happened at around 10.30 this morning, in Triq L-Imtarfa, Mtarfa.

The victim resided in Mtarfa.

The police said later that the 61-year-old man was also seriously injured and is in danger of dying. The driver was also hospitalised. 

 An inquiry, led by Magistrate Carol Peralta is under way.
