President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca has appealed to Maltese students to learn the Innu Malti.

"As citizens we should be proud to have our own national anthem, built on values of solidarity".

The President praised Maltese academics and the Education Ministry who thought of creating posters displaying the words to Malta's anthem and divided them amongst primary and secondary school students.

In the future the schools will be given compact discs containing the anthem, she explained.
