PN’s activists criticise party for inviting Godfrey Grima to speak at convention held this weekend

As the Nationalist Party held its first general convention, former members of the party and the executive have taken to social media to criticise the event, or rather the guest list.

On Facebook, Former Secretary General Paul Borg Olivier hit out at veteran journalist Godfrey Grima's participation in the convention.

"I am all for a serious debate with people of open minds, different opinions and diverse political beliefs. However, I would never invite my brother's killer to my dinner table. Godfrey Grima represents just that..in my opinion," he posted.

Commenting on the post, former treasurer Boris Xerri questioned whether the party is still protecting the core party, what he calls children of the party.

Writing on his own blog, former MEP candidate and NET TV presenter Norman Vella also hit out at Godfrey's Grima participation, saying that whoever chose to invite him was either drunk or trying to deceive his own party. Mr Vella said that the party should indeed be open to individuals holding different political beliefs; however they need to be cautious of people like Godfrey Grima, because they could damage the party.

During his speech, Godfrey Grima said that the Nationalist Party is being innovative in its ideas, however it needs to evaluate what caused its downfall.

Godfrey Grima served as a political advisor for the Labour Party in the last electoral campaign.
