A recent study shows that 75% of the Maltese workforce requires better skills, and as a result, half all jobs created are being taken by foreigners, Minister Evarist Bartolo said this morning.
A draft of the National Lifelong Learning Strategy has been launched for public consultation. The strategy targets education for people aged between 25 and 64, and aims to address early school leavers and the low number of adults who pursue education beyond the compulsory school age.
Mr Bartolo added that in general, Malta must give a higher value to education. This will allow families to break out of vicious poverty cycles, and enable them to fulfill their full potential, he said.
NGOS, Malta Enterprise, trade unions, correctional facilities and sports organizations are being encouraged to improve the synergy between themselves to promote vocational training.
The draft document is open for feedback until December 14.
