Ta' Marija restaurant in Mosta celebrated their 50th anniversary on Saturday 25th October in a night which sizzled with sweet nostalgia, glorious food, flowing wines, elegantly dressed clientele and fabulous entertainment. The Maltese cuisine restaurant, well known to both locals and foreigners in search for an authentic dining experience, hosted a charity dinner in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund to mark its milestone and to thank its customers for their patronage. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta, honoured the event with her presence. Greeting all the guests personally, her warmth and graciousness permeated throughout the restaurant. The Muscat family took guests through a beautiful and eventful 50-year journey of exquisite Maltese cuisine, a celebration of Malta's pioneers in the service industry since 1964, a journey which brought with it a colourful plethora of entertaining artists, folklore dancers, legendary foreign singers and locally-adored musicians who have gracefully bejewelled Ta' Marija's history. Live entertainment was provided by Ta' Marija's delightful trio playing mandolins and guitars. Followed by the Paul Curmi Folklore Dancers, who performed an especially choreographed spectacle which was so vibrant and fascinating, giving our rich history a heartfelt story told in dance. Then, the jewels of the night, treasured local singers, Enzo Guzman and Tony Camilleri joined the show, who charmed the audience with a dazzling repertoire of their most popular songs, both reminiscing on times gone by and poking fun at each other, as all guests laughed away at their musings and sang along with wistful emotional fervour! It was no mean feat to host such an event, guests were treated to an all-inclusive lavish 6-course dinner prepared by Ta' Marija's award winning chefs, including flowing classical wines. Starting off with an amuse bouche of chicken liver pate with an avocado dip and warm bread, followed by a trio of Ta'Marija's famous ravioli with tomatoes and basil, porcini mushrooms and gorgonzola and the delectable rabbit ravioli with sage, butter, cherry tomatoes and roasted walnuts. Everyone's senses were in delicious glory. Then a most gorgeous home-made kiwi sorbet with a cherry on top was savoured,  preparing pleased palates for the mains which featured a selection of salmon gravlax, pork cheeks in Marsala and porcini jus, and grilled fillet with a stilton cheese and roasted walnuts sauce. Dessert was another in-house treat with special 'confettura' ice-cream and Ta' Marija's  Qassata with ricotta and figs, set on a butter-biscuit-crumbly-heaven base, topped off with a devilish whirl of caramel. Zippers were crying and souls were singing so it was off to the dancefloor of course, to dance, sparkle and witness an emotional 'cutting of the cake' by the Muscat family. Champagne was served to all the guests and a heartfelt rendition of Frank Sinatra's "I did it my way" was sang by no other than Benny Muscat Snr. There was not a dry eye in the house. 50 years of hard-earned success, so many wonderful stories and a whole lot of heart. The award-winning restaurant is today the leader in Maltese and Mediterranean cuisine run by Maria Muscat and her son Ben Muscat Jnr, offering sumptuous dishes in welcoming surroundings, complemented by exceptional service and a place where you can dine, dance and dazzle all in one place.
