Laszlo Nandor Marton, 58, of Hungary, is to be extradited to his home country over a separate case after he faces a trial by jury for the alleged murder of his partner in 2010 in an apartment in Qawra, a court decided today.
It is understood that the man voluntarily accepted to be extradited.
A European arrest warrant was issued recently related to a fight he was involved in Hungary. He formerly worked as a taxi driver in Budapest.
The murder case goes back to 2010, when, in a fit of rage, the man allegedly stabbed his wife with a large pair of scissors and even tried to stab himself after he realised what he had just done.
She had suffered some 60 stab wounds on various parts of her body.
Marton was found to be nearly unconscious, hugging her blood-soaked body and suffering from some nine stab wounds to the left of his chest after he allegedly tried to commit suicide with the murder weapon.
If the man is found guilty of murdering his former partner, he still can serve his sentence in his home country instead of in Malta.
