Steve Morrison Smith, who was in police custody following the shooting incident with the driver of Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia, has been released from police custody.

Mr Smith, 30, was questioned by police after shots were fired at his car following a car chase on Wednesday evening.

It is not yet known whether the police will be charging Mr Smith in court. Mr Smith's car crashed into the minister's parked car in Gzira, which sparked a car chase that ended at Tal-Qroqq when shots were fired in the direction of Mr Smith's car.

A magisterial inquiry is under way.
