President Marie Louise Coleiro said that the Maltese people broke yet another record, with over 16,000 people taking part in this year's fun run
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that every year, the Maltese people outdo themselves. He thanked everyone for taking part and the President for organising this event, saying that this was a good push for L-Istrina. The government donated €10,000 to L-Istrina.
Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil thanked everyone for participating saying that apart from doing this for a good cause, the run was good for everyone's health.
The Fun Run in aid of L-Istrina has ended with thousands of contestant flocking into St George's square.
Organised by the Malta Community Chest Fund with the help of Kunsill Malti għall-Isport, in aid of L-Istrina, The President's Solidarity Fun Run began at 10.00 am from four points - San Anton Palace for the runners and Santa Venera, Paola Square and University for those who walked.
Passing through a number of villages, all four routes lead to St George's Square, Valletta, where participants are picking up a certificate of participation. Special bus services will be operating from Valletta terminus after the Fun Run. Contestants ran down Republic street to reach the finish line.
Banif Bank CEO Joaquim F. Silva Pinto said; "the event has grown and has become quite large in the local scene. Banif will enjoy, with all participants, this opportunity to see and enjoy Malta and help those that need while doing some exercise". Each year Banif Bank members participate in the event.

Running shirts are currently being unpacked and participants are signing in. For the sixth year running Banif Bank (Malta) plc is the main sponsor of The President's Solidarity Fun Run. This year's slogan - "One Nation, One Heartbeat".
Persons of all ages are expected to take part and the variety of routes allows for a people with a variety of fitness levels to take part in the event.
The Malta Independent staff are also taking part in the fun run.
