Two men charged over last weekend’s two-kilo cannabis find in Tarxien

Two men were today taken to court over last weekend’s two kilogramme cannabis find by the police in Tarxien.

The court heard how Wayne Grima, 31, from Paola, agreed to pick up and keep the drugs for Tony Curmi, 32, of Tarxien.

Mr Grima was charged with conspiracy to traffic cannabis and possession of the drug in quantities that denote it was not for his exclusive use. Mr Curmi was charged with conspiracy to deal in cannabis, trafficking and possession. Both men pleaded not guilty.

Inspector Herman Mula said Mr Grima cooperated with the police and told them how he had agreed to collect and keep the drugs. He described the accused as being “a vulnerable witness” who had agreed to testify against the other accused.

Magistrate Carol Peralta granted bail to Mr Grima against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €4,500. The accused was ordered to be at home between 9pm and 6am and to sign the bail book once every day.

 

Mr Curmi was denied bail. Lawyers Franco Debono, Marion Camilleri and Angie Muscat appeared for Mr Grima while lawyer Noel Cutajar appeared for Mr Curmi.
