In the sixth recording released by the PN media channel Net TV, acting Police Commissioner Ray Zammit can be heard instructing officers on site to lock Stephen Morrison Smith's car and take it to the Police garage.
Minister Manuel Mallia had already been informed about the incident by his driver when the conversation between Mr Sheehan and the Commissioner took place.
Mr Sheehan told Commissioner Ray Zammit that a “drunk man hit the minister’s car", which was parked at the time.
He identified the man as being Maltese.
Mr Sheehan said he fired two shots after the individual came at him with a beer bottle. Mr Sheehan told the Commissioner that the shots were not fired in the man's direction.
Commissioner Zammit then asked to speak to Police officers on the scene. He instructed them to take the driver, Stephen Morrison Smith, to the Msida Police station.
The Police Commissioner also enquired whether Minister Mallia's daughter was with Mr Sheehan on the scene. Mr Sheehan replied that Dr Mallia's daughter was at his mother's house.
In another recording, the Police Commissioner can be heard telling the Prime Minister's spokesperson Kurt Farrugia that "A lot of journalists have phoned about the incident."
“The important thing is that his daughter [Mallia’s] was not with him at the time,” the Commissioner can be heard telling Mr Farrugia.
Just prior to the government releasing the press release about the incident, the Police Commissioner phoned Sheehan in order to confirm the timeline of events.
Minister Mallia also spoke to Sheehan asking about his daughter.
